The Tie-Breaker Metric
In highly competitive B2B sectors like SaaS, manufacturing, and enterprise services, everyone on page one of Google has great content. Everyone has high-authority backlinks.
So, how does Google decide who ranks #1 and who ranks #3?
Core Web Vitals (CWV).
What are Core Web Vitals?
Core Web Vitals are a set of specific factors that Google considers important in a webpage’s overall user experience. They consist of three primary measurements:
- Largest Contentful Paint (LCP): Measures loading performance. To provide a good user experience, LCP should occur within 2.5 seconds of when the page first starts loading.
- Interaction to Next Paint (INP): Measures interactivity. It assesses a page’s overall responsiveness to user interactions.
- Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS): Measures visual stability. It helps ensure that elements on your page don’t jump around while the user is trying to read.
If your B2B website is bloated with heavy JavaScript, unoptimized images, and slow server response times, you are actively sacrificing rankings to your faster competitors. Fix your technical foundation before you invest in expensive content.
